Sports Video Gaming has done it again. This time we've done it for never before edited NBA Action by Sega Sports.

NBA Action (Genesis) was the 1st fully liscensed NBA game by the current 2k Sports team.  Formerly Sega Sports their NBA games started with NBA Action on Sega Genesis. This hidden gem of a game was released in 1994 with a 1 and done run on Genesis. Ok, they released another one on Genesis the following year but it took a million steps back while adding a roster manager.

Ok, history lesson over. Let's talk about the present. In the year 2008 Sports Video Gaming has brought back this title in a big way. And this is how we did it:

1. Visual

We thought the game was visually challenging and cluttered with the old graphics so we decided to change them.  The 1st thing we changed was the playing surface that was making us a little dizzy. We wiped the stripes off that were meant to be the old school hardwood floor. That process was done using a tile editor. After changing the floor to a clear more current NBA surface we decided to also create an outdoor concrete surface. The floor edits gave us the original, an indoor floor, and an outdoor floor.

The next thing we decided to change were the player uniforms.  The reason behind this was to make cleaner looking players that were easier on the eye. The original players had up to 6 different colors (if not more)  in their uniform. We cut that down in half. Two colors for the uniforms and 1 color for the jersey number.  We believe that this improved the visual appeal of the players greatly.

Along with visual enhancements to clean the game up we also edited uniforms and floors in the NBA 2k9 edit to match their real world 2008 NBA counterpart.

Uniform edits were done using a color sniper and hex editor. We located the addressed and made the proper edits.

Artwork was done by Jamal "Black Knight" Walker.

2. Concept

This is easy. The whole idea here was to make a current NBA edit using this NBA Action Sega Sports game.

What we did was locate the player names, ratings, and attributes before figuring out what each particular thing meant in the game. Once it was all figured out we went about the business of editing everything.  This process actually began in our earlier NBA Action "Dream Teams" edit.

With everything located we gathered NBA player information from NBA.com and ESPN.com. With that information we edited players to fit their real world counterparts. All ratings and attributes were based on the current NBA players. How tall they are, how they play the game, etc.

 Rosters were done by RushyDaRabbit.
